چکیده

Common approaches to the simulation of Borehole Heat Exchangers (BHEs) assume heat transfer in circulating fluid and grout to be in a quasi-steady state and ignore fluctuations in fluid temperature due to transport of fluid through the loop. However, the dynamic responses of circulating fluid and BHEs have important implications for systems design under some circumstances. This paper presents a dynamic three-dimensional numerical model (GEMS3D) that has been developed by applying the finite volume method to simulate fluid transport and transient responses of BHEs. Consequently, short timescale dynamic behaviour of a BHE and inter-tube heat transfer between two pipes can be examined by considering the variations in outlet temperature according to a step change in inlet temperature. The effect of the On-andOff characteristic of a heat pump, on sub-hour timescales, on outlet temperature of a BHE has also been investigated.

An extended two-dimensional borehole heat exchanger model for simulation of short and medium timescale thermal response

Common approaches to the simulation of Borehole Heat Exchangers (BHEs) assume heat transfer in circulating fluid and grout to be in a quasi-steady state and ignore fluctuations in fluid temperature due to transport of the fluid around the U-tube loop. Such effects have been shown to have an impact on peak temperatures and hence operation of heat pumps systems when short time scales are consider...

Modelling and Simulation of Groundwater Influence on Borehole Thermal Energy Stores

Borehole thermal energy stores used for seasonal heat storage in solar assisted district heating systems are very sensitive to groundwater flow. A heat and mass transport model has been developed by the authors in order to simulate the influence of moving groundwater on borehole thermal energy stores. This was done by combining an advanced numerical strategy, where the borehole heat exchangers ...

Improvement in Modeling of Heat Transfer in Vertical Ground Heat Exchangers

The heat transfer model of vertical ground heat exchangers for ground-source heat pump systems is discussed. An explicit solution of a finite line-source model has been derived to better describe temperature response of boreholes for long time steps, which can be easily incorporated into computer programs for thermal analysis of ground heat exchangers. A quasi-three-dimensional model is also pr...
